Rachel McIntosh is an American mezzo-soprano and music educator currently based in Helsinki, Finland. She is an artist dedicated to making the creation and enjoyment of music accessible to all people– as an educator, she strives to provide many opportunities to express their unique creative voices as often as possible; as a performer, she seeks out new and unusual venues and music, and believes that art and music should be necessarily integrated into everyday life.
Rachel has been a regular performer at Spread Art (Detroit) as a featured performer in the Wet/Dry series (2016), the Radical Sounds series (2015), and the Solace Sessions (2017). She is an avid performer of new music, and has debuted a growing list of new works, including the premier of (Drohn), an opera by James Cornish for mezzo soprano and ensemble (Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit 2016, Ann Arbor Film Festival 2017). Rachel has performed in the Michigan Opera Theater in several shows in the 2015 and 2016 seasons, and she sang in the MOT Outreach production of Little Women in March 2017. Rachel is currently a student in the Opera Master’s program at Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, Finland. She sang the role of Sesto in last April’s production of W.A. Mozart’s La clemenza di Tito, and the role of Lucretia in Benjamin Britten’s The Rape of Lucretia in November 2018. She will sing the role of Ruggiero in Alcina (Handel) in April 2019.
